Fr. Joseph E. Weiss, a member of the Society of Jesus, was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. He is a graduate of Benedictine College, Atchison, Kansas. 聽He holds an M.Div. from Weston School of Theology, and both an M.A. and Ph.D. in Liturgical Studies from the University of Notre Dame.
Having completed seven years at Creighton University as assistant professor of liturgical and sacramental theology, in 1999 Fr. Weiss returned to the University of Notre Dame to be the Associate Director of the Center for Pastoral Liturgy and the Administrative Director of the Institute for Church Life. 聽During his tenure at Notre Dame, Fr. Weiss taught homiletics, liturgical presiding, and confessional counseling in the University鈥檚 Master of Divinity program. 聽He has written on pastoral issues in the areas of liturgy, spirituality, and sacramental theology.
Since his ordination Fr. Weiss has served as associate pastor in parishes throughout the Mid-west. For over 25 years he has ministered as spiritual director and retreat master for clergy, religious, and laity. 聽Prior to joining the STM faculty during the Summer of 2016 he completed twelve years as pastor of Saint Thomas More Catholic Community in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
