Profile

Matt Sienkiewicz is Chair of the Boston College Communication Department and Professor of Communication and International Studies. He is also the Director of the聽Boston College Jewish Studies Program聽and the Faculty Advisor to Boston College Hillel.

He teaches courses in global media cultures, Jewish culture and civilization, comedy studies.

He is the author of聽That's Not Funny: How the Right Makes Comedy Work for Them (University of California Press, 2022),聽The Other Air Force: U.S. Efforts to Reshape Middle Eastern Media Since 9/11聽(Rutgers University Press, 2016)聽and the co-editor of聽The Comedy Studies Reader聽(University of Texas Press, 2018)听补苍诲听Saturday Night Live and American TV聽(Indiana University Press, 2013).

His publications include articles in the聽Journal of Cinema and Media Studies,聽Critical Studies in Media Communication,聽Media, Culture & Society,聽Communication and Critical/Cultural Studies,聽The International Journal of Cultural Studies,聽Popular Communication,聽The Journal of Film and Video,聽The Velvet Light Trap,聽The Middle East Journal of Culture and Communication,聽Jewish History,聽Columbia Journalism Review聽and聽The Atlantic.

In addition to his work as a scholar, Matt is also an Emmy-nominated media maker and screenwriter. His credits include Vermont Public Television's聽Windy Acres, and the documentaries聽Live From Bethlehem听补苍诲听The Ragged Edge.
