I am a Boston-based writer and educator with a diverse teaching background, including composition, literature, and creative writing courses. I have held several administrative roles, including director of first-year writing and director of the Writing Center at Northeastern University. In 2024, I was honored with the Northeastern University College of Social Sciences and Humanities Outstanding Teaching Award. My fiction has been widely published and has won many awards.
My teaching is dedicated to community-building and inclusion, focusing on first-generation college students and the LGBTQIA+ community. In 2021, I received a Faculty Innovations Grant in Diversity and Academic Excellence for the project 鈥淐reating and Curating Knowledge: First-Generation Low-Income Student Voice and the Experiential Liberal Arts.鈥 This grant enabled my collaborator, Prof. Caitlin Thornbrugh, and I to co-found聽First and Foremost, a student-run literary magazine dedicated to amplifying the voices of first-generation students.聽
My teaching is experiential and global. I have taught service-learning courses connected with Boston-based initiatives, including The Black Umbrella Project and the Hyde Park Social Justice Coalition. In 2021, I was named a faculty fellow for the study abroad program聽Food and Culture in Vietnam and Cambodia. I am grateful to be a part of the Messina community, where I engage in the work I love: writing, teaching, and co-creating knowledge with students.聽
